Shade Fund |
| |
| The Conservation Fund 06/10/2010 - The idea continues to evolve, but as you’ll remember, Shade Fund (see www.shadefund.org for a preliminary website and an introductory video) will be an on-line peer-to-peer microlending program linking individual lenders with “green” microenterprises, especially those that are forest friendly. We expect these small businesses (needing less than $15,000 in loan capital) will be in a range of sectors:
o sustainable forestry
o eco-tourism
o native plant propagation and natural medicines
o non-timber forest products (pine straw, maple syrup, wood crafts, etc)
o small scale woody biomass
o others we haven’t even thought of!
Individuals who want to support these businesses will be able to “shop” at shadefund.org to learn about individual businesses and make small loans ($25 and more) to them. If the entrepreneur repays the loan, the lender gets his/her loan capital back. The interest on the loans will go to support ShadeFund’s operations.
We’re targeting a mid-2010 launch of the full-blown site, and we are currently looking for:
Good entrepreneurs and microbusinesses to feature on the site.
Other people or organizations we should talk to who might be able to help us identify good entrepreneurial ventures.
Associations or conferences we should try to attend, present at, etc.
Feedback on the ShadeFund idea.
Please contact Shade Fund with questions, suggestions and ideas. |
