New Businesses Graduate |

| MPBDP 03/10/2010 - Microenterprise businesses such as our recent graduates, with five or fewer employees, added 4.5 million new jobs to the U.S. economy between the years 2000 and 2005, according to the latest data from the Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO).
AEO estimates that microenterprises represent 87% of all businesses and 18% of all private employment nationwide. In the Middle Peninsula, one-third of our local employment is created by microenterprises (per AEO Microenterprise Employment Statistics at http://www.microenterpriseworks.org).
Now, more than ever we need to support and encourage these very small businesses. Microenterprises continue to create new jobs even during our current weak economy. In addition to creating jobs, these very small enterprises recycle significantly more money back into the community compared to “big-box” business.
Approximately 387 businesses in the six counties of the Middle Peninsula and surrounding area, such as our Winter 2010 graduates have received assistance from the Middle Peninsula Business Development Partnership in the form of training, one-on-one technical assistance and access to financing. “The businesses supported by our services have, in turn, created 537 local jobs since 2000,” says Candie Newman, Director.
Congratulations to our most recent graduates of the Middle Peninsula Business Development program! We wish to commend the following people for investing the 20 hours of classroom training toward the development of their enterprise and wish them all continued success! Many began the eight-week training, but the following are the people with the determination to complete the course!
