BUILDING STRENGTH IN NUMBERS

American Independent Business Alliance 04/23/2009 - On Tuesday, May 19, the Middle Peninsula Business Development Partnership welcomes Jeff Milchen, co-founder of the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA), for a workshop that will give both independent businesses and economic development professionals proven tools to help keep more money flowing to local entrepreneurs and boost local economic vitality. Milchen pioneered the nation's first Independent Business Alliance in Boulder, CO in 1998 and, since 2001, has helped more than 65 other communities of all sizes launch similar efforts. These Alliances help independent businesses thrive through: 1. Public education about the benefits of doing business locally. 2. Facilitating group purchasing, branding and marketing. 3. Forming a strong collective voice to advocate for independent local businesses. The workshop will provide you simple ways to help persuade residents and visitors to "go local," with their spending, as well as showing how independent businesses can work together to shift consciousness and create a culture of support for local entrepreneurs. You'll also learn why most buy local campaigns fail to make an impact and how to avoid common mistakes. For more background, visit AMIBA.net. The workshop will be held from 1-5 p.m. at the Saluda Professional Center. The $60 registration fee for each workshop covers all materials and refreshments. Seating is limited. For more information or to register please call 804-758-4917 or register online at www.mpbdp.org
